Adjectives with "one" and "ones" and ordering of adjectives
Adjectives in connection with ONE and ONES
In the English language, adjectives often occur with the words one/ones. These replacements substitute a noun, which does not have to be repeated.
The old house belongs to my grandparents, the new one is ours.
Would you like the black trainers or the red ones?
Ordering several adjectives in one clause
If more than one adjective is used to describe a noun, the following order should be maintained: „subjective" before „objective" or „opinion before fact"
- a lovely old lady
- an expensive newchurch
- some nice young people
Should there be several „objective" adjectives to describe a noun, the following order should be maintained according to the English grammar:
| Size | Age | Colour | Heritage | Material | (Noun) | |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| a | small | blue | glass | statue | ||
| an | old | Greek | aquarelle | painting | ||
| some | big | new | German | premium | cars |
