Past Perfect Progressive Tense used in indirect speech
To transform events described in the Present Perfect Progressive form to earlier points of time, the Past Perfect Progressive is used in the English grammar. This is the case in the formation of indirect speech structures, where one can observe the shift of the tense levels.

Brain announced that thay should eat, as he had been cooking for hours.
